Cousin pleads for hit and run driver to surrender
News

DENVER — It’s been a rough day for Paul DeHoyos.

He learned late Monday night that his cousin, 42-year-old James Garcia, was hit and killed while crossing the street at Colfax and Sheridan on the Denver/Lakewood city limits.

“He was a good man, straight-up person.  He left his children. We’re all going to miss him,” an emotion DeHoyos told us Tuesday.

Denver police say Garcia was hit at about 7:20 p.m.  Monday and the driver never stopped.

The suspect vehicle is described as an older model, white, GMC passenger van, which sustained damage to the front-end as a result of the collision.  Parts of the front grill, including the GMC logo are missing from the front of the vehicle.

As for DeHoyos, he has a message for that driver:

“I hope that he has compassion to come forward and to understand that he took somebody and hopefully it doesn’t happen to his family, ever.”
