Denver Civic Center Recommended to Become National Historic Landmark

Denver Civic Center was recommended by a U.S. Department of the Interior agency to become a National Historic Landmark – moving Denver one step closer to receiving the first designation of this kind in the city.

Denver ranked 7th for Best City for Women in America

Women who live in Washington, D.C., Boston, and San Francisco have the highest levels of well-being in the United States, according to a new report. Women there earn more money and have the highest levels of education compared to their peers in 25 other major metropolitan areas.

Delays expected for Aurora, Denver and Lakewood drivers due to Colfax Marathon

To provide a safe environment for the 2012 Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon, the cities of Aurora, Denver and Lakewood will have temporary traffic impacts along Colfax Avenue on Sunday, May 20, 2012. While travel on Colfax Avenue will be restricted, normal traffic patterns will resume as soon as it’s safe for athletes, spectators and motorists.

New lottery ticket: "Hidden Gems of Colorado"

New to the Colorado Lottery this month is a Scratch game called "Hidden Gems of Colorado." The game was developed by the Colorado Lottery and Colorado Tourism Office to boost awareness of things to see and do across the state. The game was inspired by the Colorado Tourism Office’s official vacation guide, “99 Gorgeous Places in Colorado.” The ticket’s graphic elements and unique prize structure; every prize ends in “9,” comes from the 99 Gorgeous Places theme.

Governor recognizes State employees for their public service

Governor John Hickenlooper, Chief of Staff Roxane White and Department of Personnel & Administration Executive Director Kathy Nesbitt recognized 30 state employees for their superior service to the people of Colorado on Friday, May 11. The breakfast at the Governor’s Mansion was part of Public Service Recognition Week, for which the first full week of May each year is designated by Congress and the Governor to honor public employees and to educate the public about the many ways government workers make life better for all Americans.

Third season of Horseshoe Market kicks off on May 5th

The Horseshoe Craft and Flea Market, voted ‘Best Flea Market’ by the Westword two years in a row, will launch its third season on May 5th.  The 2012 Horseshoe season will also include a Summer Market on July 14th and a Fall Market on October 6th.  The outdoor art, craft and flea markets will be held in northwest Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood at 46th and Tennyson (in the parking lot behind Olinger Moore Howard Chapel) from 9am to 4pm.
