Third season of Horseshoe Market kicks off on May 5th

The Horseshoe Craft and Flea Market, voted ‘Best Flea Market’ by the Westword two years in a row, will launch its third season on May 5th.  The 2012 Horseshoe season will also include a Summer Market on July 14th and a Fall Market on October 6th.  The outdoor art, craft and flea markets will be held in northwest Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood at 46th and Tennyson (in the parking lot behind Olinger Moore Howard Chapel) from 9am to 4pm.

Kids in need foundation receives $25,000 grant from Staples Foundation

The Kids In Need Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides free school supplies nationally to disadvantaged youth, announced today it has received a $25,000 grant from Staples Foundation, the private foundation created by Staples, Inc.  Funding from Staples Foundation will support the Expedition: School Success 2012 program, which provides students with a backpack full of supplies to ensure they have the tools needed to do well in school.  To date, Staples Foundation has awarded $50,000 to Kids In Need.

Lakewood High School students help homeless

 

On Friday, April 13, 2012, 50 high school students from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Colorado, will be packing and delivering 100 sack lunches to those experiencing homelessness in downtown Denver. As part of the FRIENDS FIRST STARS peer-mentoring program, these students are taking part in a club in which upperclassmen mentor freshmen, teaching them about how to make healthy choices for their lives in order to grow up to be a positive influence in their families and their communities. The mentors and mentees will begin at Civic Center Park and will canvas outward from there.

On Friday, April 13, 2012, at 11:30 a.m., The Denver Police Department and Chief of Police Robert C. White  will be holding a promotional ceremony to appoint the new Deputy Chiefs and Commanders.
